Staging and Keys are other important elements of animation.

Staging:
Where does your animation take place?
What appears on your canvas to let us know where we are?
Who/What will appear in the animation?
Where will the people/objects be placed?
How will all these pieces interact? and Why?
Staging also refers to the way our objects and people are standing. Does their body/shape/position help tell the story?

Straight Ahead & Pose to Pose (also known as Keys):
We can draw our animations frame by frame (which is what we have been doing) this is known as ‘Straight Ahead’ animation.
The other way to animate is to draw Pose to Pose. We do this by drawing Keyframes, which means important (key) moments that we need in our animation. After drawing the KEYS, we draw the EXTREMES and the the BREAKDOWNS.
Basically, draw the Beginning, middle and end first and then figure out the animation, this can lead to some great results.

For our practice we will create

1. A stage (a location, a place)
2. At least 3 things (could be 3 people, could be 3 objects, or 2 people and 1 object, etc.)
3. We will draw the KEYS first, followed by EXTREMES and BREAKDOWNS. Basically draw the beginning and end first.

For our practice we will do a 2 second animation at 10fps.

Save as PSD for your records, saves as GIF when you are done.
